With a passion for travel, Alexia Klein began her career at sea and quickly developed a deep interest in wine and the flavors of every region she visited. As a result, she embarked on her journey to become a Sommelier, guided by a desire to craft exceptional moments through the perfect pairing. Six years later, her continued curiosity for the world of wine and natural ability to connect with guests has led her to become one of Seabourn’s Head Sommeliers.
About Alexia
I graduated as an architect, but always dreamed of seeing the world, so I joined a cruise ship as an assistant waitress. This decision opened my eyes to new horizons and introduced me to the world of wine. My curiosity about regions, grape varieties, winemaking, and pairings soon became a true passion that now shapes my life. When my husband and I joined Seabourn, I had just over two years of experience as a sommelier. The company supported my growth, investing in my wine education, and helping me rise from Assistant Sommelier to Head Sommelier. I love discovering new wines and remaining a lifelong traveler, exploring every port, chasing sunsets, and savoring the local cuisine wherever I go.
What is Your Favorite Wine Region?
I love sailing Alaska for its uniqueness, but the Mediterranean is my favorite for wine. I've joined wine tours in France, Italy, Greece, and Turkey, with Bordeaux being my favorite port. Seabourn often overnights there, allowing me to enjoy incredible moments in the destination with my husband and crew.
What is your Favorite Part About Your Job?
I love the constant learning. I learn so much from our fascinating guests as well as from my supportive managers and colleagues. But above all, I love the chance to taste extraordinary wines from all over the world. On land, wine lists are usually more limited to a region, varieties or style, but at Seabourn we have an extensive international list. That, combined with traveling, allows me to explore wines I might never have access to otherwise.
What is your Favorite Seabourn Moment?
I love surprising guests with the perfect bottle, and some of my favorite memories were made sharing wine during special moments. My favorite Seabourn moment was an unforgettable night in the Mediterranean - the team transformed the open deck into a theater under the stars. We had desserts circulating, classical music filled the air, and together we transformed the whirlpool into a champagne tower! Cold champagne, sweet treats, music, and incredible teamwork, the guests loved it!
