A Night to Remember in Melbourne: Opera in the Vines
During Seabourn Sojourn’s World Cruise, guests enjoyed an unforgettable evening in Melbourne that captured the depth, access, elegance, and shared moments that define a Seabourn World Cruise.
The evening began at Chandon, where guests were welcomed by the ship’s Senior Officers before enjoying pre-dinner festivities in an elegant vineyard setting. A curated selection of canapés included Shark Bay scallops from Western Australia, duck and mushroom croquettes, Wagyu beef skewers with yuzu ponzu sauce, beetroot and pistachio tartlets, and prawn rolls.
These were paired with Chandon wines and cocktails, from a refreshing Garden Spritz made with house made orange bitters to Vintage Blanc de Blanc and Vintage Brut, alongside Cuvée Riche, Sparkling Pinot Shiraz, and the house’s prestige cuvée, Étoile.
Opera Among the Vines
Guests then made their way to a stage set among the vineyard rows, creating a striking setting for the evening’s performance. Acclaimed Australian opera singers, including Antoinette Halloran, James Egglestone, Emily Edmonds, and Christopher Hillier, delivered a memorable program against the natural backdrop.
Midway through the performance, rain added an unexpected moment of drama. The experience continued seamlessly as guests moved into Chandon’s glass walled tasting room to enjoy the finale in comfort, a transition that only enhanced the evening.
A Culinary Finale at Rochford Estate
Following the performance, guests continued to Rochford Estate for a five-course dinner paired with regional wines. Highlights included golden seared barramundi with Toolangi Pauls Lane Chardonnay, followed by slow-braised beef shoulder served with beetroot hummus, crisp spring slaw, and red wine jus, paired with Rochford Single Vineyard Isabella’s Cabernet Sauvignon.
A live string quartet accompanied dinner, adding to the warm and elegant atmosphere as guests shared the experience together, and connections deepened over the course of the evening.
A Seabourn Welcome Home
At the end of the evening, guests returned to Seabourn Sojourn, where the ship’s team welcomed them back on board, a final touch that reflected the warmth and care of Seabourn hospitality.
Events such as Opera in the Vines are part of what makes a Seabourn World Cruise so memorable, bringing together destination, culture, cuisine, and connection in ways that feel both meaningful and unforgettable. In Melbourne, it became an evening guests will remember long after the voyage itself.
